Video Game List

The brilliance of the video game platform for neurotherapy training is the unlimited supply of training screens. Rather than programming a game or feedback display for training purposes, the SmartBox uses off-the-shelf video games. As a result hundreds and hundreds of training screens are currently available with new ones appearing weekly. Although we have not tested every game that appears on the market, we have provided a list of tested games below.

The SmartBox is designed to work the Sony PlayStation platforms. It is compatible with most PlayStation games. The PlayStation was chosen as it has the greatest market penetration (over 120 million units sold worldwide) and the greatest number of game titles.

There are currently three PlayStations that can be purchased. The first is the original PlayStation which can be found used in Game stores or on Ebay for under $25. The second is the PlayStation One. The PSone is a small device similar in size to a CD player. It can no longer be found new. It can be attached directly to a television, or can be purchased with an attached LCD monitor ($150 for PSone and LCD monitor).

The PS2 and the new slim design PS2 are newer PlayStation systems. Only the slim version can still be found new and it retails for $129 and can be similarly attached to a TV or LCD monitor. PSone games can be played on either a PSone or a PS2. PS2 games can only be played on a PS2.

Video games for the PSone range in price from $2 - $10 and can be found used at many game stores and online. New PS2 games range in price from $20- $60. Both PSone and PS2 games can be purchased used at less than half price at GameStop and Electronics Boutique stores. These stores are found in most malls and other locations throughout the country including online through their web sites.

The difference in game play between PSone and PS2 games is primarily the quality of the graphics. Both are engaging and a lot more fun to train with than standard neurotherapy training. The PSOne appears to be in a phase-out mode. There are no new titles being produced and older games are becoming less available.

The latest PlayStation is the PS3. At this time the SmartBrain System is not compatible with the PS3.

XBOX

XBOX compatibility has recently been added to SmartBrain Technologies Systems. The SBT modified PS2 game controller must be used for the training system to work for video games. In order to use the SBT modified game controller on the XBOX, a PS2 to XBOX game controller adapter is necessary. This adapter is supplied with the SMART XBOX Complete System or can be ordered separately from our online store.

The PS2 to XBOX adapter connects our modified PS2 game controller to your XBOX allowing the XBOX console and games to be used with our system. The XBOX list of games tested with adapter and SMART System can be found below. The controller configuration may need to be changed to allow certain XBOX games to work with the SBT system. These changes are noted in the game list.

The latest XBox system is the XBox 360. At this time the SmartBrain System is not compatible with the XBox 360.

Types of Games

The games that work best with our system are games that employ continuous forward motion and direction control. Our system requires constant or frequent intermittent use of the X button on the game controller. Racing type games that require constant pressing on the X button (speed accelerator) are perfectly suited for training purposes. Other games that use the X button for jumping, like skateboarding or flying or gliding in games like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk also work well. Our system is not appropriate for the first person shooter type games, not only because of the violent content, but also because that type of game does not lend itself well to the training format.

Below is a list of games that will work with our system. The list is divided into PSOne and PS2 titles and is also categorized by Racing and Jumping Games. Not all games have been tested by SMART BrainGames for compatibility. The games that have a * are highly recommended.
